Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743 in Goochland County, Virginia. Thomas had to get a tutor since where he lived in Virginia, they didn’t have public schools. When he was 16 he entered the College of William and Mary. In 1776 he and 4 other people wrote the Declaration of Independence. He took the leading role for the Declaration of Independence. It is also known as his best-known work when he created the Declaration of Independence. When he was writing the Declaration of Independence, he wanted to included the phrase ‘all men created equal’ Even though he owned slaved, the other writers changed it to ‘freeman created equal’ He was ahead of his time. When he was working the Louisiana Purchase, Jefferson was worried that France would gain their territory back from Spain. Jefferson and his wife shared music and literature at the Monticello. It took Jefferson 40 years to build it and included 33 rooms. Under the house was a tunnel for the slaved to bring food for his dinner guests. At one end of the tunnel was the kitchen and at the opposite end was the cooking. In November 1789 Jefferson arrived in United States when Washington asked him to be Secretary of State. Jefferson’s first administration lasted 1801 until 1805 and, his second administration lasted until 1805 until 1809. Jefferson was elected to Virginia’s House of Burgesses in 1769 served until 1775. In 1776 Jefferson resigned from congress and returned to Virginia’s House of Delegates. Jefferson said ‘Instead of an aristocracy of wealth’ to make an opening for the aristocracy of virtue and talent.’
Jefferson was born into one of the most prominent families of Virginia planter elite. His mother Jane Jefferson was a member of the proud Randolph clan. At age 9 he studied Latin and Greek when he was a kid. After three year at William and Mary college, Jefferson decided to read law under Wythe. Thomas and his wife had six kids together while both of them were alive. Only two of them had survived into adulthood. Martha their first child and Mary their fourth child they had but only Martha could survived her father. Jefferson was one of the earliest and most fervent supporters of the cause of American Independence from Great Britain. In 1777 Jefferson wrote Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. On June 1, 1779 the Virginia legislature elected Jefferson as the state’s second governor. After nearly five years in Paris, Jefferson returned to America in 1789. Jefferson dedicated his later years to organizing the University of Virginia, and the nation’s first secular university. On March 7, 1825 the University of Virginia open their doors and it was one of the proudest moments in Jefferson’s life. In 1797 Jefferson’s public ambivalence and previous claims that he was through with politics. Jefferson said ‘We hold these truths to be self- evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.’
There were 12 things Thomas Jefferson Invented and explains what some of them mean. The first one is Dumbwaiters it is a small elevator for carrying things, especially food and dishes, between the floors if a building. A turning closet and a double door opened with one handle. Great Clock is a clock at the Entrance Hall and has a second face on the east front of the house, and has only an hour hand on it. An other one is the Hideaway bed that can be converted into a bed, usually by folding out a concealed mattress and springs. He also invented our favorite snack the macaroni and cheese and he also invented the macaroni extruding device. Other two inventions the Pedometers is an instrument for estimating the distance traveled on foot by recording the number of steps taken. One other is the Plow moldboard of least resistance which has no definition to it. The polygraph is a machine designed to detect and record changes in physiological characteristics, such as a person’s pulse and breathing rates. Other invention is the revolving book stand which holds five books at adjustable angles, it still suits for cross checking information. The spherical sundial is a wooden sphere which is 10.5 inches in diameter and was something of a novelty in its time. The swivel chair is a chair with a seat able to be turned on its base to face in any direction. The wheel cipher is consisted of twenty-six cylindrical wooden pieces, each threaded onto an iron spindle.
Jefferson had slaves from his father and his father-in-law. On an average he had slaves in a year was 200, almost half of them under the age of sixteen. Jefferson also had a nailery where young slave boys made 5,000 to 10,000 nails a day. It helped support the household, About eighty of them lived where Thomas Jefferson lived in Monticello; the others lived on adjacent Albemarle County plantations; and in Redford county, Virginia. Jefferson freed two slaves in his lifetime and five were in his will and two other had chosen to run away. All were members of the Hemings family; the seven he eventually freed were skilled tradesman. His parents were father Peter Jefferson and mother Jane Randolph. After Jefferson left the congress in 1776, he returned to virginia and served as the legislature. He was elected governor from 1779 to 1781, he suffered an injury into his conduct during his last year in office that , although he finally fully repudiated. He was left with life-long pricklishness in the face of criticism. In 1790 Jefferson accepted the post of Secretary of State under the friend of George Washington. His tenure was marked by the opposition to pro-British of Alexander Hamilton. In 1796 as presidential candidate of Democratic Republican, he became vice-president after losing to John Adams by three electoral votes. Thomas Jefferson epitaph reads: ‘Here was buried, Thomas Jefferson is the Author of the Declaration of Independence of the state of Virginia for freedom, and the father of the university of Virginia Born April 2, 1743 O.S. and Died July 4, 1862. Jefferson having inherited a considerable estate from his father, Jefferson began building and living in Monticello when he was twenty-six years old. Three years later, he married a woman named Martha Wayles Skelton, where he lived happily for ten years until she had died. In their marriage they had six children, but only two could survived to the adulthood. Jefferson voiced the aspirations of a new america that no other individual of his era or time. Thomas Jefferson was a public official, historian, philosopher, and plantation owner, and he also served for five other decades. Some of Thomas Jefferson’s quotes are ‘Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom,’ ‘I like the dreams of the future better than the history in the past.” Thomas Jefferson was a farmer when he lived in Monticello. Jefferson had start building and designed his house in Monticello at the age of 26. He was elected third president after George Washington and John Adams. Thomas had requested to find the United State Congress the Lewis and Clark to explore the western part of the country. The cost of it was about $2,500 and in 1803 the Unites State purchased land. Jefferson had tired pasta in Europe so he brought a machine home so he could have pasta. He also let any guest try it out when they came over and visited him. Jefferson invented the iron and the board plow which he used to farm and it could dig down 3 inches deep. We recognize Thomas Jefferson by putting his face on the nickel for what he did for this country. Thomas Jefferson loved reading books when the Library of Congress was attacked by the British. Jefferson offered his own library to them which was books of 6,487. He also loved to write letters to people he wrote about 19,000 in his lifetime on a polygraph. He had a mockingbirds as his pet the reason was because he loved their singing and had at least four at a time. Thomas Jefferson was an early archaeologist he had bones from a mastodon ,and he went to the white house and laid the bones out in the east room which is empty to build a skeleton. Jefferson as you know had six children but he also had 12 grandchildren. He was a good one he would build them races, teach to play games, and many of them lived with him.
The House of Representatives settled the tie. Hamilton disliked both men Jefferson and Burr, but he nevertheless urged Jefferson’s election. During his second term as president, Jefferson was increasingly preoccupied with keeping the nation from getting into the war. Jefferson was known as the Bachelor President, as his wife passed away before he took office.
Jefferson died exactly 50 years after signing the Declaration on July 4. He kept asking what day it was as he lay dying. He died at the age of 83. What Jefferson did during post-presidential years at Monticello, where he continued to pursue and go to school for architecture, music, reading and gardening. He also helped found and create the University of Virginia, which open and held its first classes in 1825. Jefferson was involved with designing the school’s buildings and houses and curriculum, and ensured that unlike other American colleges at the time, the school had no religious affiliation or religious requirements for its students.
