Everybody wants to have the job of his or her dreams and you can. To enhance you can of getting the job you want are cover letters, resumes, and preparing for interviews. There are key fundamentals to write a cover letter and resume to enhance your chance of an interview and ways to prepare yourself for interviews. Interviews can be extremely frightening. Everybody will go through at least one interview in his or her career. Interviews can give crucial information about an applicant as well the applicant can judge the position and the company. Cover letters, resumes and interviews are very crucial to fulfill our careers. Interviews are important for any variety of jobs and it is good to be prepared for all of them.

First of all you will need to write a cover letter. The cover letter is a short, well-written letter expressing your interest in a particular position. Your cover letter is a significant part of your resume, and a good one can make you stand out among other candidates. When you conduct you letter make sure the letter is addressed to the person hiring. If you don’t have the person name phone or e-mail the company and ask them. This will help the reader be more interested if his or her name is on it. The cover letter should have where and how you found out about the position, your reason for being interested in this company, your main skills and accomplishments, how you fit the requirements for the job, items of special interest about you that would relate to your potential for the job, and request for an interview. The cover letter should be no longer than one page.

When you are all finished your cover letter you will have to include a resume. A resume is a summary of your skills and accomplishments. Resumes are a marketing tool used to promote us to potential employers for the purpose of obtaining an interview. Simply, resumes help get us interviews. There is no correct format in writing a resume but there are thing that should and shouldn’t be said in a resume. It should include:

1) Contract Information: Your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address at which you can be reached and all your contact information should go at the top of your resume.

2) Job objective: A one sentence objective focusing on your specific area of expertise and the sort of work you are hoping to do.

3) Employment History: Paid and non-paid experiences beginning with the most recent. Be sure to give employment dates and briefly list important duties and accomplishments.

4) Education: Schools attended, degree completed or expected, date of completion, with focus on coursed that are most directly related to the job. If you are a new graduate without a lot of work experience you should list your educational information first.

5) Community activities: Community service organizations, clubs, and so forth, including offices and dates.

6) Special Skills: computer skills, foreign languages, and other skills

7) Interest and Activities: Only those that are related to your objective.

8) References: People who know your work, your capabilities, and your character who will vouch for you. Include only a statement that references are available on request.

You don’t want to include such personal information as height, weight, age, sex martial status, health, race, religion, or political relationship. Also the resume should be no more than three pages. The resume should be neat, have no spelling mistakes, and copied on good quality paper. You want to stick out from all the other candidates.

Interviewing is a technique used by employers in which questions are asked to assist the employer in making the right decision selecting the ideal employee for the company. When in an interview the company is looking for your personality and motivation. These strategies will help prepare you for an interview.

1) Learn about the company. Knowing that you know what the company is about and what it does tells them you are interested in the job.

2) Rehearse your interview. A good way to rehearse your interview is get a friend and get him to ask questions the company would ask during the interview. Saying your answer out loud will help you in your real interview.

3) Dress appropriately. In an interview your attire plays a supporting role. Appropriate attire supports your image as a person who takes the interview process seriously and understands the nature of the industry in which you are trying to become employed.

4) Know the exact time and location of your interview; know how long it takes to get there, park, find a rest room to freshen up, etc. Arrive early; at least 15 minutes prior to the interview start time. If you are late for your interview the interviewer will probably think you will be late for work.

5) Look at the interviewer with good eye contact and when you meet the interviewer give a good firm handshake and call him/her by title and then last name until otherwise notified. Sit still in your seat; avoid fidgeting and slouching. The company will be looking for all these signs.

6) Respond to questions and back up your statements about yourself with specific examples whenever possible. Ask for clarification if you don't understand a question. Be careful in your responses, while being concise in your wording. Be honest and be yourself. Dishonesty gets discovered. You want a good match between yourself and your employer. If you get hired by acting like someone other than yourself, you and your employer will both be unhappy.

7) Evaluate the interviewer and the organization s/he represents. An interview is a two-way street. Conduct yourself cordially and respectfully, while thinking critically about the way you are treated and the values and priorities of the organization. This will give you a chance to find out if you will enjoy working with the company. You should also ask questions about were you would be working or ask them what a typical days work is like for the person who gets the job.

8) Treat the interview seriously and as though you are truly interested in the employer and the opportunity presented. Show a positive attitude, the interviewer is evaluating you as a potential co-worker. Behave like someone you would want to work with.

9) Don’t talk to long about how much you are going to get paid or what benefits I will be receiving. Unless you’re sure the company is interested in hiring you.

These guidelines will help you get your foot in the door, be more confident and less frightened while being interviewed. Having a grasp of these guidelines will get the job you want.
