Eye exercises are very much helpful for people who are suffering from symptoms of eyestrain. What does vision training involve?
Vision training involves various procedures that can be carried out in office or home setting under the direct supervision of an orthoptist or an opthometrist. These exercises are aimed at improving focus, strengthening the muscles of the eyes, improving the eye movements and stimulating the vision center of the brain. The various eye exercises include changing the focus of eyes far to near and back to front, concentrating and focusing on a particular object, following a moving object to strengthen the eye muscles, closing one eye with the hand and looking at different objects than a solitary object and many such others. These vision training exercises are broadly divided into two categories as given below,
Orthoptic vision therapy or orthoptics.
Behavioral vision therapy or visual integration vision therapy.

Orthoptic vision therapy:
The orthoptic vision therapy is mainly focused on improving the binocular vision. People suffering with strabismus and diplopia highly benefit from this kind of vision training. The various factors involved in this vision therapy are simultaneous focus at near, sustained focus at near, eye movement control, simultaneous focus at far, sustained focus at far, central vision or visual acuity, simultaneous alignment at far, sustained alignment at far, sustained alignment at near and sustained alignment at near.

Some of the eye exercises used in this orthoptic vision therapy include, convergence exercises like pencil push-ups, stereogram cards, base-out prism reading, wearing convex or concave lenses, computerized training programs that are aimed at improving convergence and the 'Cawthorne Cooksey exercises' aimed at improving vestibular disorders such as dizziness. The various indications of orthoptic vision therapy are mainly patients with convergence insufficiency and intermittent exothorpia. The convergence insufficiency is a form of binocular vision disorder where the patient experiences eyestrain, double vision on viewing nearer objects and tired eyes. People who experience double vision on viewing distant objects do not benefit much from this exercise.

Behavioral vision therapy:
Behavioral vision therapy aim at improving the visual concentration and attention. This kind of vision therapy is mainly helpful for improving gross visual-motor skills, fine visual-motor skills, visual perception, color perception and peripheral vision. The behavioral vision therapy includes various eye exercises involving the use of Rotation trainers, Marsden balls, balance boards/beams, syntonics, directional sequencers and saccadic fixators. Behavioral vision therapy aids in sustaining the focus and shifting the focus from one area to the other.

Simple eye exercises for improving vision:
If you are someone constantly working on computers and other equipments that can strain your eye muscles, you can try out these simple eye exercises to strengthen those tired muscles. Some of such relaxing exercises are,
Blinking ' Blinking for 3 to 4 seconds every 2 minutes can help relieve the eyes from the constant stress while focusing on a particular thing.
Palming ' Palming can give your eyes enough rest while working. All that is needed is to close your eyes with your palm one at a time, not applying much pressure and giving your eyes some rest.
Figure of eight- This exercise can give a small work-out to all the eye muscles. Just imagine a big eight in front of you and follow the figure with your eyes.
Near and far focusing- Alternate viewing an article that is closer to you as much as 10 inches and an object that is 10 to 20 feet far.

The neuro vision training system:
The Neuro vision training system is a recent technical innovation first discovered by the Nobel Prize winner Dennis Gabbor. This vision training has been very successful for more than two decades of clinical research. This vision training system eliminates the need for any surgery or medication. Neurovision training system trains the brain to see better through the defective eye and can be used even in treating adult amblyopia.

This vision improvement program can be completed even at home using a personal computer which trains the brain using repetitive practice of specific tasks. This vision training program also comes with specialized algorithms that can analyze the performance of the patient during each session and modify the program accordingly. The vision training program is carried out in 30 sessions of 30 minutes each, 3 times per week. You can undergo this program at a comfortable pace and under the direct supervision of an eye doctor or opthometrist. This vision improvement is long lasting and can be used to treat a variety of vision impairments including amblyopia, presbyopia, myopia, post cataract or laser surgery,
and low vision.

Undergoing a proper regimen of vision training program under the direct evaluation of the optometrist or an opthalmologist is mandatory to overcome a variety of vision impairments and to avoid surgery and related medications. Identifying conditions such as amblyopia at a very early age is necessary for successful treatment of such conditions. Also recent technical advancements such as neuro vision, which aim at improving the vision by training the vision center of the brain, can help rectify vision problems even in adults. Moreover proper eye exercises along with a proper diet can take you a long way in your venture to eliminate spectacles forever.
